Three former South African cricketers have been arrested on corruption charges. The arrestees are former ICC top one-day bowler Lonwabo Satsabe, wicketkeeper-batter Salekile and medium pacer Ithi Mbalati.
A report by ESPN Cricinfo said that a total of five charges have been laid under the Prevention and Eradication of Corruption Act of 2004. The charges were brought against the three cricketers following an investigation by the South African Police Service's special branch, the DPCI (Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation). On Friday, DPCI National Head General Godfrey Lebeya said, "The DPCI is always determined to uphold the values of fairness and professionalism in any aspect of society. Corruption undermines the integrity of sport. We thank Cricket South Africa for its cooperation and commitment.’
Earlier, the Cricket South Africa Board had banned seven cricketers for varying periods for attempted match-fixing in the 2015-16 domestic T20 tournament Ram Slam Challenge, including the three arrested cricketers.
