Babar Azam's captaincy is once again in question. Not in rhythm with the bat for a long time. He was stripped of the captaincy after being eliminated from the league stage of the World Cup. Pakistan cricket then reverted to the two-captain theory. Shaheen Afridi T20 and Shan Masood came to the post of Test captain. Even then, peace did not return.
Babar returned to the captaincy after one series. Pakistan did not benefit from that. Dropped out of the T20 World Cup from the group stage. And Shan Masood has lost all the matches with responsibility in the test. For the past few days, there has been a strong demand to change these two captains in Pakistan cricket. Inform wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan's name has also come up strongly as the new captain.
However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President Mohsin Naqvi does not want to interfere in this matter. He left the responsibility of making this decision to the decision of the team's two head coaches, Gary Kersten and Jason Gillespie. It has even been reported that a meeting may be held on September 22. But according to Pakistan cricket officials, neither Kirsten-Gillespie is seeking the removal of Babar or Masud.
In the last ODI World Cup under the leadership of Babar, Pakistan left the league stage after losing 5 out of 9 matches. After that, he played in the T20 World Cup and lost against the United States in the first round. In the last two Tests against Bangladesh, this Pakistani batsman played the highest innings of 31 runs in 4 innings. In the same series, Shan Masood was also said to be removed from the Test captaincy after the team's collapse.
But two of Pakistan's newly appointed coaches speak a different tone. White ball head coach Kirsten and red ball head coach Gillespie want the captains to be given a chance to prove themselves. An official of the Pakistan Board told PTI, "There was no discussion about the change of captaincy." PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi left the decision on the captaincy to the two coaches and the selectors. The two coaches agreed to give Shan Masood and Babar Azam a long time before deciding what kind of captain they are.
Meanwhile, to solve the current impasse of Pakistan cricket, a bonding camp has been organized by the PCB on September 23. The main objective of this camp is to review international and domestic cricket in Pakistan. Pakistan's two coaches Karsten and Gillespie have been invited to the PCB meeting.
The head of the board commented, "Workshops are being organized to get feedback from all stakeholders, especially coaches of domestic teams, selectors and cricketers under central contract. Its purpose is to reduce the difference in domestic and international cricket standards.
