The Commonwealth Karate Championship was scheduled to be held in Dhaka on September 25-29 with the participation of 40 countries. The venue of that championship changed in the context of the overall situation in Bangladesh. Instead of Dhaka, Bangladesh, the tournament will now be held in Durban, South Africa.
As the venue has changed, so has the timing of the competition. The new schedule for the Commonwealth Karate Championships in Durban from November 27 - December 2 has been fixed. Bangladesh's participation is also uncertain due to the change of venue. Naina Chowdhury, Acting General Secretary of the Federation said this. In fact, due to the unstable situation in our country, the venue was changed to South Africa at the end of July. Going to South Africa requires a lot of money to participate. The general secretary used to assist in financial matters, but he is no longer there. As a result, participation is very difficult.
Bangladesh made necessary preparations to host the Commonwealth Karate. Bangladesh Karate Federation has also spent some money on mats of Shahid Indoor Stadium in Mirpur, samples of medals and many other things. Azad, the treasurer of the federation, said that due to the cancellation of the venue, there is some loss. As the venue has been cancelled, it is not possible to fulfill it completely or make good use of it.
Karate won three golds at the 2019 Kathmandu SA Games. Five years later the federation took the initiative to host a major event on its own initiative. If this event was held, the karate federation of Bangladesh could have benefited financially in addition to winning the medal.
Earlier, the Women's T20 World Cup was moved from Bangladesh. The World Cup was supposed to be held in two stadiums in Dhaka and Sylhet with 10 teams and 23 matches. But due to political complications after August 5, the World Cup was moved to the United Arab Emirates.
