England's Test series against Pakistan in October was already scheduled. However, after the series against Bangladesh, there were rumors that the series might be moved from Pakistan due to venue complications. Which was at the center of discussion for the past few days. However, PCB President Mohsin Naqvi officially announced his decision today (Saturday). He also announced two new venues in Pakistan.
Pakistan-England is scheduled to face off in a three-match T20I series from October 7. However, due to the complexity of the venue, recently there were rumors of changes in the schedule of the series in the media. According to the news, the Pakistan-England series may be held on the soil of United Arab Emirates or Sri Lanka. Pakistan is preparing itself as the host for the Champions Trophy to be held in February 2025. Where currently all the stadiums including Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi are undergoing renovation work.
England coach Brendon McCullum expressed his disappointment with the fluctuating situation regarding the venue and schedule of the series. "We don't really know (what's going on in Pakistan), but we can't send a team without knowing where we're going to play," he said ahead of the start of the third Test of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. If we get to know the matter in the next couple of days, then there will be no doubt.
After that today after inspecting the renovation work of Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the PCB president removed that doubt. Mohsin Naqvi said, 'No Test will be outside the country, with Multan and Rawalpindi as final venues for the series. We are in touch with the England Cricket Board and they are also satisfied. There is no issue beyond that.
Later, regarding the ongoing renovation work of the venue for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, the PCB chief said, 'The foundation stone work of Gaddafi Stadium will be completed on September 30, one floor work will be done every three weeks. The pavilion will be made of steel and the main building will be completed by December 31. The deadline has been given to complete all the works, the entrance of the stadium is completely new.
Incidentally, the upcoming Pakistan-England series is part of the World Test Championship. Which will be held between 7-28 October.
