After the fall of the Awami League government in the mass uprising of the students on August 5, the BNP leaders and activists have been accused of being involved in various criminal activities across the country. Trinamool leaders from the center of the party are getting involved in blasphemy comments, occupation, violent activities from 'pond theft'. However, the top leadership of the party is taking strict measures to suppress these excesses of the leaders. When the person against whom the complaint is made is expelled from the party or suspended from the post and a show cause notice is given.
BNP leaders say that after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, the party's chairperson-acting chairman in a video message and on behalf of the secretary general gave a message - that no one in the party should be involved in attacks, vandalism and looting. If anyone is involved in criminal activities in the name of the party, he should also be handed over to the law enforcement agencies. At the same time, the party has repeatedly warned of strict action. But then there were accusations against the leaders and workers of various organizations including BNP-Chatra Dal, Jubo Dal across the country for being involved in violence, encroachment and violation of party discipline. In view of which more than a hundred activists have been expelled from the party and organization so far. And some central leaders of the party have been suspended and show-cause notices have been issued as to why permanent action should not be taken against them.
BNP Standing Committee member Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad told Dhaka Post, "BNP is a disciplined party." We think that someone else is doing them in the name of BNP. BNP is also alert, hope no one gets involved in criminal activities.
A.League leaders should be prosecuted under international humanitarian law
He also said, 'BNP is a huge party. Some of them may be greedy and commit criminal activities. However, the party will take strict action against them. It has been taken against the organizational secretary of Barisal divisional BNP.
This is Ziaur Rahman's party. We are all aware, so that no one indulges in this kind of work' - said Major (retd.) Hafeez.
The leaders of BNP say that the allegations against them of involvement in party discipline activities are being raised and the truth is being found; Organizational measures are being taken against them immediately. Through this, a message is being sent to others that similar organizational measures will be taken against those who will be accused and found to be true in the future. As a result, order has slowly started to return among the activists.
Sources of BNP say that news comes from some areas of the capital, party leaders and activists are occupying various places and putting up party signboards. One such news came to the leaders that 2 houses were illegally erected at the site of Sadiq Agro, rescued by the City Corporation of Mohammadpur area of the capital, and BNP signboards were installed there. In view of this, on August 16, on the orders of BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman, the party's sports affairs secretary and Dhaka Metropolitan BNP leader Aminul Haque went there and demolished the houses. At the same time, he warned the local leaders not to engage in such activities.
Sources also said that reports of BNP and its affiliates occupying various houses and shops in the capital's Mohammadpur, Segun Bagisha, Khilgaon, Mirpur, Savar, Narayanganj areas outside Dhaka have reached the centre. The party has warned the leaders and activists of these areas to leave the occupied areas. Apart from this, BNP has been miking in Segun Bagicha, Khilgaon areas of the capital by leaving the illegally encroached areas.
Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told Dhaka Post that some miscreants have tarnished the name of BNP. They have been caught in some places, they have been named as terrorists of Chhatra League. BNP is not involved in any way. It is a very planned propaganda against BNP. We condemn it.
He further said, "We have been given a message from our party - if someone does something like this, hand him over to the police and the army. If anyone of BNP is involved in these, strict action is being taken against him immediately."
A source in the BNP Standing Committee says that the most embarrassing thing for the BNP was that on the night of the fall of the government (August 5) the complaint of occupying a pond in Barisal town was made against the party's central organizing secretary Bilkis Jahan Shireen. As a result, his post was suspended the very next day. Meanwhile, due to embarrassing situation for the party, Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu, member of the Advisory Council of the Chairperson. In an event on August 16, he threatened that 'If Hasina's pictures and speech are published in the TV-magazine, they will be burnt' and made false comments. Due to which he has also been given a show cause notice within 24 hours.
The source also said that since these are the central leaders of the party and have been subjected to various tortures by the Awami League government in the last 16-17 years, they have been warned with a show-cause notice instead of expelling them directly, so that they do not engage in such activities in the future.
On the condition of anonymity, a leader of the BNP secretariat said, "After the fall of the government, some opportunistic people in the name of BNP indulged in encroachment and extortion in various places. Several news of which also appeared in the media. The top leadership of the party was shaken. Instructions are given that the person against whom the complaint is filed should be expelled immediately. So that the discipline of the party is not broken somehow."
According to the sources, as many as 20 BNP leaders and activists have already been expelled at the district and upazila levels for their involvement in various criminal activities. More than 50 people of Juba Dal and 15 of Chhatra Dal have been expelled from the affiliated organizations. Besides, several leaders and activists of the volunteer party and the labor party have been expelled. And more than 50 leaders and activists of BNP and organizations have been given show cause notices.
Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of BNP Chairperson's media wing, told Dhaka Post, "BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman will not accept any wrongdoing by party leaders at any level. He advised top leaders including party secretary general to strictly follow this message. At the same time, he directed to take immediate action."
