Former MP's son Emdad Khandkar wants to contest as a Member of Parliament from Chittagong-1 (Mirsrai) seat. He is the son-in-law of late Obaidul Haque Khandkar, a two-time former MP elected from Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP.
Obaidul Haque Khandkar was a freedom fighter. He was elected Member of Parliament from Chittagong-1 (Mirsrai) constituency as a candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party in 1979 Second National Parliament Election. After that, in the 1996 Sixth National Parliament Election, he was elected Member of Parliament from Chittagong-1 (Mirsrai) constituency as a candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Locals said that Emdad Khandkar, a resident of West Alinagar village of Karerhat Union No. 1 of Mirsarai Upazila, stayed there for a long time for the benefit of working in America, but due to growing up in a political family, he engaged himself in social service and whenever he got a chance, he rushed to the ground of the country and inquired about the nationalist ideology leaders of Mirsarai. Besides, he keeps in constant contact with senior politicians of Chittagong and capital Dhaka.
Locals also said, we believe that Emdad Khandkar will be able to free Mirsarai from extortion, drugs, bribery, corruption, party strife like his father late Obaidul Haque Khandkar. We hope the party will give a person of clean image like Emdad Khandkar an opportunity to serve the people of Mirsarai.
Emdad Khandkar said about his participation in the upcoming national parliament elections, "During the lifetime of my father, late Obaidul Haq Khandkar, a former member of parliament elected from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP, he wanted me to be involved in politics." Although I was not physically involved in politics because of my studies and working life, I kept in touch with the local and national level leaders and activists with the ideals of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in my heart. I will contest as a Member of Parliament from Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP from Chittagong-1 (Mirsrai) seat in party nomination.
