The leaders and activists of the District Farmers Party staged a protest protest demanding that the Convening Committee of Kurigram District Farmers Dal has been formed with opportunists, defectors and drug addicts, excluding the abandoned leaders and activists. At the same time, they demanded to cancel the announced committee.
On Friday (September 13) noon, a protest march left the district town of Dadamore and circled the city. Later, a rally was held at Shapla Square in the city.
The rally was led by the former convenor of district Krishak Dal Khalilur Rahman Khalil, former joint convener Muhibul Huda Robin, Md Khalilur Rahman Khalil, the convenor of Chilmari Upazila of Krishak Dal, Md Sirajul Islam Apon, the member secretary of Fulbari Upazila Sirajul Islam Sera and the leaders and activists of the district. The speakers termed the announced committee as 'pocket committee' and demanded its immediate cancellation. At the same time, they demanded the formation of a committee with activists active in the movement and the field in the past.
The protestors in the rally presided over by Khalilur Rahman Khalil, the former convenor of the District Farmers' Party, claimed that 'drug addicts and defectors' have been included in the recently announced convening committee of the Farmers' Party. Those who have taken advantage of people close to Awami League leaders for so long have been given a place in the committee. The tyagi leaders and activists of the district farmers' party are rejecting this committee. The speakers demanded the formation of a new committee consisting of tyagi and active leaders and activists immediately.
Former convener Khalilur Rahman Khalil said, "On Thursday (September 12) the convening committee of Kurigram District Farmers' Party was announced. Drug addicts and defectors have been given place in the leadership of this committee. Basically this pocket committee has been made in exchange of money. BNP's Rangpur divisional co-organizing secretary Abdul Khalek Bhai is responsible for this. He got this committee approved by the center in exchange of money. The photo of his presence when the committee received the letter of approval is proof of that. He (Abdul Khaleq) is our guardian. But he made a biased committee.
When asked about the truth of the demand to include drug addicts in the newly announced convening committee, this leader of the farmers' party said, "I am talking about responsibility. Only by doing their dope test will we find the truth of our complaint.
However, BNP's Rangpur divisional co-organizing secretary Abdul Khalek has denied the allegations of interference in the approval of the committee. He said that the central committee of the party is responsible for providing the committee of the farmers' party. The convening committee had given earlier. They could not form a police station committee, could not work. The Center has asked to disband our committee. We said, check it out. You approve your committee of those who work. The center has given the inquiry committee. There is no interference from me or BNP here.'
On the question of placing drug addicts and party defectors in the committee, this divisional leader of BNP said, "Those who work with organ parties, those who work in the district, they can say it well. I have no comment in this regard.
Incidentally, the 31-member convening committee of Kurigram District Farmers Dal has been announced with Ripon Rahman, the former joint convener of the district Krishak Dal, as the convener and Rukunuzzaman Khandkar Ruku, the former Chhatra Dal leader, as the member secretary. Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal Central Parliament President Hasan Zakir Tuhin and Acting General Secretary Mosharraf Hossain approved this committee on September 12, district Krishak Dal sources confirmed.
