There were two rounds of clashes between two sides of BNP over the control of labor supply for the under-construction power grid sub-station in Amtali. 15 people from both sides were injured. Six seriously injured people were admitted to Barisal Shebachim Hospital. In this incident, there was a case between the two parties on Thursday. The incident happened on Wednesday night.
It has been reported that the construction work of Power Grid Bangladesh sub-center started in 2022 in Chalabhanga area of Sadar Union of Amtali Upazila. In the beginning, the control of the labor supply and other work of the center was in the hands of Upazila Awami League Vice President and Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Motahar Uddin Mridha and his brother Zahirul Islam Khokon Mridha. After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, local Milon Mridha and Humayun Kabir Milton Mridha took control of the labor supply for the project. They are followers of Jalal Uddin Fakir, the expelled convener of Amtali Upazila BNP. Aminul Islam Akon of the same area wants to share the labor supply control. Aminul Islam is a follower of Upazila BNP member secretary Tuhin Mridha. There was a dispute between the two parties. Aminul Islam Akon claimed that upazila BNP member secretary Tuhin Mridha went to Kheaghat in Khuria yesterday afternoon. There was a back-and-forth between the two sides over compromise. At one point, both sides clashed. Haldia Union BNP joint convener Abul Kalam Azad, Humayun Kabir Milton Mridha, Milan Mridha and journalist HM Russell were injured. As a result of this incident, Rahat Fakir, the son of expelled upazila BNP convenor Jalal Uddin Fakir, and hundreds of his followers vandalized the shop of Upazila BNP member secretary Tuhin Mridha's elder brother Abdul Halim Mridha at a place called Khinkata in Amtali town. On being prevented from doing so, they cut Halim Mridha with sharp weapons and seriously injured him. When local Kabir Khan and Mizanur Rahman Talukdar came forward to protect him, they were cut and wounded. Upazila BNP member secretary Tuhin Mridha along with his followers went to the spot after receiving the news and a clash took place between the two parties. 15 people including Abul Kalam, Mucha Mia, Milan, Yusuf Mia and Miraz Sardar were injured. The seriously injured Abdul Halim Mridha, Kabir Khan, Mucha, Abul Kalam, Miraj and Mizanur Rahman were admitted to Barisal Shebachim Hospital. In this incident, there have been counter-cases between the two parties. Humayun Kabir Minton Mridha, a follower of Jalal Fakir, has filed an extortion case in the Amtali Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in the name of five people, with Upazila BNP Member Secretary Tuhin Mridha as the main defendant. Court judge Md. Arifur Rahman took cognizance of the case and ordered the OC of Amtali police station to take it as a statement. On the other hand, upazila BNP member secretary Tuhin Mridha has filed a case against 26 people at Amtali police station accusing upazila BNP expelled convenor Jalal Uddin Fakir of trying to kill his brother and looting shops as the plaintiff.
Power Grid sub-centre worker Humayun Kabir Milton Mridha said, member secretary of Upazila BNP Tuhin Mridha, Samsul Haque Chowkidar demanded Tk 5 lakh contribution from me. They beat me severely for not paying that money. I filed a case in the name of five people with Tuhin Mridha as the main accused in this incident.
Injured Kabir Khan said, "I came forward to save Abdul Halim Mridha after seeing BNP leaders and activists cutting and injuring him. Then they cut me too. I demand punishment for this incident.
Expelled convener of Amtali Upazila BNP, Jalal Uddin Fakir said that upazila BNP member secretary Tuhin Mridha and Samsul Haque Chowkidar with their more than half a hundred followers demanded a contribution of Tk 500,000 from power grid worker Milton at Kheaghat in Khuria. They beat him severely for not paying the subscription. However, he denied that he had stabbed the brother of Tuhin Mridhar, the member secretary of the upazila BNP led by his son.
Member Secretary of Amtali Upazila BNP Md. Tuhin Mridha denied the demand for donation and said that under the leadership of Jalal Fakir's son Rahat Fakir, his hundreds of followers vandalized, looted and cut my brother's shop. When Kabir Khan, Mucha, Abul Kalam and Mizanur Rahman came forward to protect my brother, they also cut them and seriously injured them. In this incident, I filed a case in the police station in the name of 26 people with Jalal Fakir as the main accused.
Amtali police station OC Kazi Sakhawat Hossain Tapu said, received the complaint. The case is under process.
