The students-crowd have besieged the office of the executive engineer of the district electricity distribution company NESCO, demanding seven points, including the removal of prepaid meters, in Natore. The office located in Alaipur area of the city was surrounded at 11 am on Tuesday. After the assurance of the army officer to fulfill the demands, they moved away from there.
Earlier, under the banner of anti-discrimination student movement, a program to surround the office of Nesco was called. In response to this, hundreds of ordinary people started gathering at the main gate of the office along with the students from 10 am today.
Later around 11 o'clock a large presence was seen around the office. At that time, the students started raising slogans accusing Nesco of various irregularities. Nesco officials and employees were blocked. Army and police personnel were stationed there to ensure their safety.
Army Captain Sadad, who is in charge of Nator Sadar Upazila, addressed the assembled students and said that the seven points of the students are logical. Nesco has been asked to meet these demands. They asked for some time. For this, he asked the agitators for seven days.
A person named Habibur Rahman said, 'Unbeknownst to everyone, Nesco authorities are deducting various types of illegal service charges from us. So first of all prepaid meters should be removed.
Vishal Agarwal, executive engineer of the Nesco NATO office, said that the demands of the students will be reported to the higher authorities. Time is needed to resolve. He requested customers to be patient.
