This is the first time in the country's history that 493 upazila chairmen and 323 municipal mayors have been removed. Removed by local government department.
A notification in this regard has been issued by the local government department on Sunday (August 18).
It is said in the circular that 493 upazila chairmen of Bangladesh have been removed from their respective posts by applying section 13(d) of the Upazila Parishad (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.
Also in the notification the post of Koira Upazila Parishad Chairman was declared vacant due to death.
Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) will perform duties in place of removed chairmen.
The local government department has issued a notification removing the mayors of 323 municipalities elected during the Awami government.

According to the notification, the mayors of the following municipalities in Bangladesh have been removed from their respective posts by applying section 32(a) of the Local Government (Municipalities) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.
