After Shibli Rubaiyat ul Islam, the chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), the capital market regulatory body, two commissioners of the organization have resigned. They are Commissioner Sheikh Shamsuddin Ahmed and Rumana Islam.
On Monday (August 12), the concerned official of the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance confirmed this information to Dhaka Post.
According to BSEC sources, these two commissioners were asked to resign by the Financial Institutions Department on Sunday. Later that afternoon they submitted their resignations. Earlier, BSEC Chairman Shibli Rubaiyat Ul Islam resigned on Saturday. As a result, three of the five-member BSEC commission resigned. Commissioner Mu is still in charge. On May 8, Sheikh Shamsuddin Ahmed was reappointed for a second term as BSEC Commissioner for four years. This commissioner had to resign after three months of appointment in the second round.
Professor Rumana Islam of Dhaka University Law Department was appointed as the first woman commissioner in BSEC on May 8, 2022. He was appointed for a period of four years. However, he also had to resign with the change of government before the completion of his term.
