Police clashed with anti-quota students at Sherpur in Bogra. At least half a hundred people including journalists were injured.
The clash took place on Wednesday (July 17) around 1:30 in the Dhunat Mor area of the city. Later, the police dispersed the protesters by firing several rounds of rubber bullets and tear shells.
Later, the anti-quota students are trying to block the highway by taking positions at different intersections of the upazila. There is chaos in the city. Shopkeepers have closed many businesses including markets.
Talking to the police, eyewitnesses and students, it is known that the students of several institutions of the upazila gathered at Sherpur Shahidiya Alia Madrasa under the banner of ordinary students around 11 o'clock on Wednesday in connection with the attack and killing of students in the ongoing quota reform movement. Then they took out a protest march. The procession circumambulates the important roads of the city.
At one point, the agitators started protesting on the highway around 1:30 p.m., when the police asked them to move. Arguments and clashes started between the two sides. Later, the police fired several rounds of rubber bullets and tear shells to disperse the protesters. In protest, students also threw stones at the police.
