Feni has suffered severe waterlogging due to continuous heavy rains. In the last 24 hours (from 6 pm on July 7 to 6 pm on July 8), the district has recorded 441 millimeters of rainfall, which is the highest in a single day in the country this year. This information was confirmed by Feni Meteorological Office Officer-in-Charge Md. Mojibur Rahman.
Due to the excessive rain, water has accumulated waist-deep in various areas of the city including SSK Road, Rampur Shaheen Academy, Pathanbari, Nazir Road, Petrobungalow. This has caused extreme suffering in public life. Hard-working people, daily wage earners, students and employees have suffered the most. Shops, educational institutions and traffic have practically come to a standstill.
Meanwhile, due to the hill slopes and continuous rain, the water level of the Muhuri, Kahua and Silonia rivers is rising rapidly. At 8:20 pm on July 8, the water level of the Muhuri river was flowing 137 cm above the danger level. As a result, the lower areas of Fulgazi, Parshuram and Chagalnaiya upazilas have already been flooded.
The water entering the upazilas has caused erosion in seven places on the Muhuri river embankment, said Md. Akter Hossain Majumder, Executive Engineer of the Water Development Board Feni Division. The erosion areas include Jangalghona (two places), Sahebnagar, Derpara and Gadanagar areas of Parshuram upazila.
In this situation, Feni Deputy Commissioner Md. Saiful Islam said that the water level of the Muhuri, Kahua and Silonia rivers is above the danger level. However, he urged everyone not to panic and to be alert. If emergency assistance is required, a request has been made to contact the Deputy Commissioner's help desk.
