Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed's duplex garden house built on 24 khata in Rupganj of Narayanganj has been seized on the orders of the court. Deputy Director of ACC Narayanganj office Moinul Hasan Roshni confirmed the matter.
On Saturday (July 6) around 3:30 pm, the team consisting of Narayanganj District Administration and District Anti-Corruption Commission seized this house in Anand Housing Society area of Rupganj.
Moinul Hasan Roushni said that Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mahmudul Haque, local upazila administration officials and ACC officials were present when the house was raided. According to the order of the court, the district administration will pull the signboard and paste the notice in the house.
It is known that Benazir Ahmed bought this place for 1 crore 83 lakh from the children of late Premananda Sarkar of the area about eight years ago. He built a house on this land in 2022. Benjir sometimes used to come to this house and spend the night there. Apart from the caretaker, two dogs were also kept in the house under round-the-clock security.
In view of ACC's application on June 12, the court seized Benazir's huge assets in the third round. This bungalow is also in that list. After that, the court appointed the receiver to the Deputy Commissioner to take care of the house.
Prior to this, reports were published in a national daily titled 'Aladdin's lamp in Benazir's house' on March 31 and 'Benazir's resort in forest land' on April 3. Allegations of illegal acquisition of wealth were raised against Benazir Ahmed and his family members. ACC decided to investigate on April 18 after verifying the complaint. Benazir left the country with his family members in the first week of last May when the search began.
