The hearing of the case filed under the Explosives Act in the tragic murder that took place at the Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in Peelkhana in 2009 is being held today. The temporary court adjacent to the Central Jail in Keraniganj has been decided as the venue for the hearing.
The trial of 834 accused in this incident began in 2010. However, despite the passage of a long time, the case has not been resolved. As a result, 468 accused who were acquitted in the murder case and completed their sentences have not been released yet.
50 accused have been presented in court for today's hearing. The rest are staying in Keraniganj jail. Special measures have been taken to ensure security in the court premises.
It is worth noting that a total of 74 people, including 57 army officers, lost their lives in the mutiny in Peelkhana on February 25 and 26, 2009. The previous hearing of the case was scheduled to be held on January 9, but it was postponed due to protests by students of Alia Madrasa.
Meanwhile, relatives of those who have not yet been released are holding a human chain in front of Keraniganj Prison. According to lawyers, it is very important that the case proceedings are resolved quickly.
