All parties will be able to participate in the elections if they are not banned and their registration is not cancelled, said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin. He said the Election Commission is now completely independent. There is no pressure from the right or the left or from the outside world. They are now under pressure of conscience.
He said this in response to questions from journalists at a view-sharing meeting organized at the Chittagong Circuit House on Monday (December 30) at around 11 am on the occasion of ‘Update of Voter List and Thirteenth National Parliament Election’.
In response to a question on whether there is any obstacle to Awami League participating in the elections, the CEC said that if the government does not declare a party banned, the Election Commission cannot cancel the registration of that party. He also mentioned that it is a political or court decision. They have no intention of banning any party. He also commented that the Election Commission is waiting for a political or court decision.
In response to another question, AMM Nasir Uddin said that they want to remove the distrust of voters, for which they have a plan to go door to door. He expressed hope that they will be able to complete this work within 6 months. He said that they want to include those who have been left out of the voter list and said that this election will not be like the previous one. For this, maximum efforts will be made, everyone's cooperation will be needed.
