Employees are being created in Bangladesh, which is a very positive sign, said Primary and Mass Education Advisor Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar. However, he said that most of these new entrepreneurs go abroad. To prevent this trend, he called for active initiatives from the government as well as the private sector. According to him, the role of entrepreneurs is very important in the development of the country, so necessary measures must be taken to retain them in the country.
He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 'Global Entrepreneurship Week 2024' organized at Daffodil Plaza in Dhanmondi, Dhaka on Saturday (November 23). He also mentioned that entrepreneurs could not succeed in this region since the British rule. The British East India Company destroyed Indian agriculture and created a certain class, which hindered the trend of entrepreneurs.
He said, "We could not get out of that old pattern even after independence." He emphasized on the government's support and patronage to improve the entrepreneurial environment at this time.
Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar also said, "Institutional support, training and research centers are needed for entrepreneurs, so that they can compete in the international market from within the country."
This year, Global Entrepreneurship Week is being celebrated worldwide from November 18-24, with 40,000 events being held in 200 countries and about ten million people participating. The celebration in Bangladesh is being held under the theme 'Remove Barriers and Welcome All'.
Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Managing Director of Global Entrepreneurship Network Bangladesh, Yusuf Farooq, Managing Director of Microsoft Bangladesh, Gunijan Dallakti, Skills Expert of the International Labor Organization, and Shawkat Hossain, CEO of Venture Capital Limited of Bangladesh, also spoke at the event.
They all discussed the creation of entrepreneurship and the contribution of entrepreneurs to the economic development of the country.
