234 gms at Petrapol port in India across Benapole land port
An Indian truck driver named Shahidul was arrested with 2 gold bars.
On Tuesday 17th September, he was detained by the Border Security Force (BSF) at Petrapol port on his way back to India with the cargo truck he was driving (WB 78-6064) after unloading the imported goods at Benapole land port.
The gold bars were hidden inside the truck's cabin, wrapped in white paper with two pieces of black tape. The price of which is approximately 17 and a half lakh taka.
It is known that the imported cargo truck entered Benapole port with 21 thousand kg of apples on September 14. Whose Manifest Number- 60120240010056075, Importer Dhaka Trade Zone. C&F M/s Zarin Enterprises of Epar. Whose representative was Shamim Ghazi. The Indian exporter of the consignment was HM International and C&F. Whose proprietor is Feroze.
In this regard, Karthik Chakraborty, General Secretary of Petrapol Port C&F Agent Association of India, confirmed the truth of the incident through a phone conversation. He regretted that a gang has been active in Benapole port of Bangladesh for a long time and has been conducting such activities. That cycle is very violent. They are doing all these things by intimidating Indian cargo truck drivers and helpers. Driver-helpers in India are not safe with them.
He also said that the gang has continuously intensified smuggling activities as the scanning machine at the import-export gate of Benapole port is not working. As the BSF personnel are always on the alert along the Indian border, some gold bars are being seized from time to time. Therefore, if this situation continues on the border of Bangladesh and these illegal syndicates cannot be stopped, it will be very difficult to sustain the business of the two countries.
