Former judge Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, who got bail from the Sylhet court, was brought to Dhaka by helicopter. As there are multiple cases against him, he has been arrested again in Dhaka.
BGB arrested Justice Manik from the Dana border of Kanighat upazila of Sylhet on the night of August 23. The next day Sylhet court ordered him to be arrested under section 54 and sent to jail.
But that afternoon, when he was taken to the court, the angry crowd attacked the controversial former judge. He was seriously injured and admitted to the hospital, where he underwent surgery on his testicles. Later on September 12, the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital authorities gave Manik a discharge certificate as his physical condition improved. Manik was then taken from the hospital to Sylhet Central Jail amid tight security.
He was brought to Dhaka by RAB helicopter on Tuesday. RAB's Legal and Media Wing Director Lt. Col. Munim Ferdous confirmed the matter to Dhaka More News.
He said that Justice Manik was brought to Dhaka from Sylhet. The RAB helicopter carrying him landed at Tejgaon Puran Airport around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. He has been handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. In this regard, DMP's Mohammadpur Police Station OC Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan confirmed to MoreNews that Justice Manik has been brought to Dhaka. A police team has been sent to make the arrest.
He said, there is no case against him in Mohammadpur police station. Arrests may be shown in other cases. Mohammadpur police team went there only for security.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Op.) Yisroel Howlader told MoreNews that although he got bail in the Sylhet case, there are four to five more cases under his name in Dhaka. You can say that the prison has changed. He was arrested in a case in Dhaka. He is being sent to Dhaka Central Jail.
Earlier in the morning, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Sylhet granted Manik's bail application.
