Bangladesh's former prime minister Sheikh Hasina is now being compared to India in terms of the consequences of the student movement. In the recent anti-government movement in West Bengal, the issue of Bangladesh and the fate of Hasina has been repeatedly discussed. Even Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in Kolkata, "They thought that the government can be overthrown by a movement like Bangladesh."
The same topic echoed in the Indian state of Karnataka. A Congress leader of the southern state warned the central government and said, "If the governor is not removed, he will be forced to leave like Sheikh Hasina."
The political future of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lies in this threat by the Congress, the ruling party of Karnataka. The governor appointed by the BJP government has incurred the wrath of the ruling party by allowing the trial of corruption charges against him to begin. The Pradesh Congress held protests against the Governor in various parts of the state. There have been demands for the governor's removal.
At the anti-governor rally, party leader and assembly member Ivan D'Souza threatened that if the Center does not remove the governor, then agitation will be organized across the state. In that movement, the governor's fate may be like that of Sheikh Hasina.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been accused of illegally benefiting his wife in land distribution. A case has been filed against the chief minister in the lower court. mainly
The Congress alleged that the Governor took the action for political reasons, which is illegal. He wants to create political unrest in the state. On July 26, he received the complaint and allowed the action to be taken without considering it.
Thabarchand Gehlot is a BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh. He was a member of the Narendra Modi cabinet from 2014 to 2021. Then he was sent as the Governor of Karnataka.
Congress alleges that Thabarchand is involved in party politics despite being the governor. His aim is only one, to obstruct and harass the Congress government at every post. That is why he allowed legal proceedings against the Chief Minister very quickly without any deliberation.
Siddaramaiah approached the Karnataka High Court against the Governor. The High Court granted him temporary relief. Last Monday, the lower court will not be able to start the trial until the hearing of this case on August 29. Considering the situation, the Chief Minister has called an emergency meeting of the parliamentary party on August 22.
Allegation against Siddaramaiah that he had illegally given land to his wife. In response, the Chief Minister said that he was not involved in any illegal decision or corruption. In the Karnataka High Court on Monday, he said that in his long political life, no corruption charges have ever been raised against him. What is happening now is politically motivated.
An activist of the Right to Information Movement has accused the Chief Minister of corruption. He alleged that among the land acquired by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) for government projects in 2021, the Chief Minister's wife Parvati had three acres of land. Instead, the market value of the land given to him elsewhere according to the law is much higher. The chief minister did not mention that land in the affidavit submitted in the last assembly polls.
The fate of Siddaramaiah is pending in court. For Congress, it is a political conspiracy of BJP-JDS. Because of their involvement in the conspiracy, they are up in arms against Governor Thabarchand Gehlot. The threat of making the Governor's status like Hasina's if not deterred.
