A pair of scissors was stolen from a shop near the boarding gates of a Japanese airport. 36 flights have been canceled due to this. Also 201 flights were delayed. This information was reported in an online report of BBC on Tuesday (August 20).
According to reports, the incident happened at the domestic terminal of Hokkaido's New Chitose Airport on Saturday morning local time. Hundreds of travelers were stranded for some time as security checks were suspended for about two hours. Overcrowding at the departure lounge forced passengers to undergo security checks again.
The BBC says authorities continue to try to find the two missing scissors. Finally two scissors were found in the same shop the next day. However, even though the scissors were not available throughout the day on Saturday, safety checks and flight operations were started on that day.
The director of the new Chitose Airport, Hokkaido Airport, said on Monday that the missing scissors were found by an employee of the shop on Sunday.
Explaining the reason for the delay in making this announcement, the authorities said that they have taken time to ensure that the scissors that were lost from the store and the ones that were found are the same.
Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism asked Hokkaido Airport to investigate the cause of the incident. He directed to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
