Recently, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Chapa said that the Central Government of India and the Government of Bangladesh have kept me in the dark about the Teesta Water Development Agreement and I will not accept the agreement that will harm the people of North Bengal. Bangladesh they are like our brothers and sisters, close relationship. We love them. But if water is given, the people of North Bengal will suffer."
The chief minister said loudly in the assembly, "I cannot enter into any agreement by compromising the interests of Bangladesh. I do not know who voted for me and who did not. People will expect the government. I will do this work from there. We have good relations with Bangladesh. How did the Center talk about this?"
"The water will cut through the tip of my nose. And I will be one with the nose, the tears? I will not accept." The Chief Minister also made this comment.
It is to be noted that the central government has talked about the Teesta agreement without informing West Bengal. The Chief Minister made this demand even today. Mamata Banerjee has objected to giving Teesta water to Bangladesh since the beginning.
The Chief Minister said on Monday, “The Teesta floods due to heavy rains. But it is not a state river. We have to suffer for the outside. North Bengal suffered. The Center does not provide any information.”
