Donald Trump will be inaugurated as US president on January 20, 2025. He has warned that if the hostages held by Hamas are not released before that event, there will be 'terrible consequences'. Trump made this warning in a message posted on his social media account Truth Social on Monday.
Trump said, "Everyone is calling for the release of those who are being held hostage in the ongoing war in the Middle East, which is very cruel, inhumane and against the will of the whole world; but everyone is just talking, nothing is being done."
"Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20, 2025. If the hostages are not released before that, there will be terrible consequences, he said. The United States will strike a blow that has never happened before in its long history. All those involved in crimes against humanity and violence will be sent to hell."
On November 29, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a member of the US Senate and a close ally of Trump, said in an interview that Donald Trump wanted a ceasefire in Gaza before his inauguration.
In the interview with the US media outlet Axios, Trump said, “Donald Trump is determined to release the Israeli hostages held in Gaza and to have a ceasefire there. He even wants this issue resolved before the president’s inauguration.”
In 2023, fighters from Hamas, the armed political group that controls the Gaza Strip, entered Israeli territory and carried out a surprise attack. In addition to killing 1,200 people indiscriminately, 242 were taken hostage.
Israeli forces launched an operation in Gaza to free the hostages, which is still ongoing. Since the start of this horrific operation, about 44,400 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, and more than 100,000 have been injured.
