Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has requested the United Nations to withdraw all troops from the border area, including Bangladeshis serving as peacekeepers in Lebanon. He said this in a video message given in English on Sunday.
Earlier, 40 countries, including Bangladesh, issued a statement condemning the Israeli occupation's attack on peacekeepers. After that, Netanyahu asked these peacekeepers to withdraw.
Netanyahu said, "I am telling UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that now is the time to withdraw UNIFIL peacekeeping troops from Hezbollah positions and the war zones." The Israeli Defense Forces have repeatedly made this request. But every time it was rejected. The aim of which is to provide security to Hezbollah terrorists through human shields.”
He further said, "Honorable Secretary General, immediately remove the peacekeepers from the danger zone. Now is the time to move them quickly. By refusing to withdraw the troops, you are holding them hostage to Hezbollah. It is putting the lives of both peacekeepers and our troops at risk."
