A member of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) committed suicide while patrolling the border. He committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle while on duty in the Bangladesh border region of Tripura, the northeastern state of the country.
This information was reported by the Indian media India Today NE in a report on Monday (September 9) night.
The name of the deceased BSF member is B Arun Dilip (40). According to reports, Border Security Force (BSF) member Arun Dileep died on Monday after he shot himself with his service rifle while on patrol in Kamalpur in Tripura's Dhalai district.
A BSF officer, who did not wish to be named, said the incident took place while patrolling the border.
He said, "We believe that he attempted suicide. He shot himself twice, once in the stomach and once in the shoulder. Later he was rescued and taken to Kamalpur Hospital. But as his condition was serious, he was referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala.
However, when GB Pant took him to the hospital, the doctors declared Arun Dilip dead. It has also been informed that a thorough investigation is going on regarding the surrounding situation in this incident.
Incidentally, Tripura shares borders with Mizoram and Assam, two northeastern Indian states besides Bangladesh. Basically the state of Tripura is surrounded by Bangladesh in the north, south and west.
The length of the international border of this state of India with Bangladesh is 856 km.
