After 33 years of the Gulf War, the European country of Switzerland is reopening its embassy in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. Geneva closed its embassy in the country after the 1991 Gulf War. After more than three decades, the embassy in Baghdad has been reopened, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Switzerland is reopening its embassy in Iraq's capital Baghdad on Tuesday after 33 years of closure, the statement said. The Swiss Foreign Ministry said its embassy was closed and staff withdrawn from the country due to the 1991 Gulf War.
"By reopening the embassy, the Federal Council aims to strengthen bilateral ties with the populous country and deepen mutual cooperation on economic, security and immigration issues."
