The prices of onions and potatoes are not within the reach of common people. However, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has already exempted customs duty and regulatory duty on imported onions and reduced the import duty on potatoes to 15 percent as well as 3 percent regulatory duty. However, these two essential products are being sold at high prices in the retail market. However, due to the increase in the supply of various winter vegetables in the market, the prices of vegetables have decreased slightly.
On Wednesday (November 20), this information was obtained by visiting different raw markets of the capital.
Old potatoes are being sold at 70-75 Tk per kg in retail shops. Some small size potatoes are being sold at Tk 65 per kg. Apart from this, domestic onions are being sold at a minimum price of Tk 130 to a maximum of Tk 150 and imported onions at a price of Tk 100 to a maximum of Tk 110 per kg.
Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) market rate report says that the reduction and withdrawal of duty did not have any benefit in the market. In the space of one month, the price of domestic onion has increased by 21.74 percent and imported onion by 5.13 percent.
