On the occasion of the Holy Eid Miladunnabi (PBUH), all import and export operations between the two countries, including port and customs, are closed from the morning of Monday (September 16) through the country's largest land port, Benapole-Petrapole. However, passport passenger travel between the two countries is normal as any other day.
General Secretary of Benapole C&F Agents Staff Association Sajedur Rahman confirmed this.
He said that due to the official holiday on the occasion of Miladunnabi (PBUH) Day on Monday, customs and port activities including import and export between the two countries through Benapole-Petrapole port are closed. From Tuesday (September 17) morning, customs and port operations will resume with import and export.
Azharul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Benapole Checkpost Immigration said that although the import-export trade through Benapole port is closed, the movement of passport passengers between the two countries is normal. Benapole Port Deputy Director (Traffic) Rashedul Sajib Nazir said, due to the official holiday on the holy Eid Miladunnabi (PBUH) day, all customs and port activities including import and export between Benapole-Petrapole port are closed. From Tuesday (September 17) morning, import and export will resume with port operations. However, empty Indian trucks unloading goods at Benapole port will be allowed to return.
It should be noted that every day around 400 trucks of various types of goods are imported from India through Benapole port. 150 truckloads of products are exported to India. The government's daily revenue from import trade is about Tk 40 crore.
