After surrounding the Dhaka Education Board the previous day (yesterday Monday), the students are protesting by entering the secretariat today. A large number of students gathered and protested under the building where the Ministry of Education is located in the Secretariat. They are chanting, 'Our demands must be accepted.' Then at one stage around 4 o'clock, the Ministry of Education went up to the 18th floor of the Secretariat. The students took position in front of the ministry's secondary and higher education department office. At this time, all entrances to the secretariat were blocked. At one stage, the Ministry of Education announced the cancellation of the postponed exams in compliance with their demands.
2024 HSC and equivalent examination started from last 30 June. Meanwhile, seven exams of Dhaka Education Board and several exams of various boards were completed. After that, the HSC and equivalent examinations were postponed several times due to the government job quota reform movement and student uprising. First, the last July 18 exam was postponed. Then the exams of 21, 23 and 25 July were simultaneously postponed. The examination was then postponed from July 28 to August 1. Later it was decided that the HSC and equivalent exams will be conducted in the new schedule from August 11. But later it was informed that the exam is not being held on August 11. A source in the education board said that after Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and left the country, the trunks containing question papers were damaged in attacks on police stations in different areas. For this, the decision to take the exam from August 11 was postponed. The Board of Education had recently proposed to the interim government to hold the postponed examinations from September 11. It was also approved.
Meanwhile, the examinees protested yesterday Monday at the Dhaka Education Board from noon to evening saying that they were not in a condition to sit for the examination. In the situation that arises, the examinees want the results of the examination to be published based on the number of subjects that have already been examined. After discussing with the higher authorities, they suspended the movement after giving positive assurances to fulfill the logical demands. After the demands of the students, it was decided to conduct the remaining subjects of the HSC exam this morning in a half-question-and-answer format. And it was decided to postpone the exam for another 2 weeks from September 11. But the students did not accept it and protested by entering the secretariat. In the face of the agitation, at one stage the postponed HSC and equivalent examinations were cancelled. The decision on how the HSC exam results will be given will be communicated to the students later.
