The court has sent two accused to jail in the controversial gold shop loot case in Gazipur's Sreepur. On Tuesday (November 11), Senior Judicial Magistrate Amli Court (Sreepur) Judge Jasmine Nahar rejected the bail applications of accused Kabir alias Farma Kabir (accused number 3) and Kabir Hossain (accused number 5) and ordered them to be sent to jail.

Plaintiff's lawyer Kamruzzaman Sarkar Pradeep said that they strongly opposed bail to the court as the case was very important. The court also rejected their bail application considering the importance of the case, evidence and CCTV video footage.

Incident details

On October 29, around 10:30 am, a planned looting took place at the 'Rita Jewelers' gold shop owned by local businessman Gaurang Chandra Das located in the central mosque lane of Maona intersection in Sreepur.

Although the shop was closed that day, 20-25 youths led by local businessman Subrata Das and Payal Sarkar first broke open the shop's signboard and forcibly entered the shop. They then looted the shop's gold ornaments and valuables. CCTV footage also shows evidence of this incident.

Case and progress

The day after the incident, shop owner Gaurang Chandra Das filed a case (No. 67(10), 2025) with Sreepur Police Station. A total of six people were named as accused in the case. Two of them were arrested and sent to jail on the orders of the court.

The victim businessman Gaurang Chandra Das said,
“The way the attack and looting took place in broad daylight was completely planned. I have been doing business for many years, I have never faced such a terrible situation. The masterminds should be arrested and brought to justice quickly.”

He also said,
“If justice is served, others will not dare to commit such crimes in the future.”

Police statement

Sripur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Barik said,
“Two accused have been sent to jail on the orders of the court. The operation to arrest the remaining accused in the case is ongoing.”

He also said,
“This is a sensational case. Efforts are being made to quickly investigate, recover the looted assets and bring all the accused to justice.”
