In a tragic incident in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district, miscreants cut down more than 600 fruit trees of a farmer's five acres of land in the dark of night. The incident took place on Friday (April 25) night in the field of Pardemra Mara village of Sarisha union of the upazila.

The affected farmer, Salauddin Ahmed Hirak, is the son of Ali Ahmed Mridha of Pardemra Mara village. He said that he had set up a mixed fruit farm on his father's 15 acres of land three years ago with the dream of becoming an agricultural entrepreneur. Out of this, there were about 400 papaya, 100 guava and 100 mango trees on the five acres of land.

Salahuddin Ahmed Hirak said,

"The miscreants cut down all my trees in the dark of night. When I went in the morning, I saw that all the trees were cut down from the roots. I had a dream of earning several lakhs of taka, but it is all over. I want a proper investigation into this brutal incident and exemplary punishment for the culprits. At the same time, I am seeking compensation from the government so that I can turn around again."

Pangsha Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Salahuddin said that after receiving the information, the police visited the scene. Necessary legal action will be taken after receiving a written complaint.

Pangsha Upazila Agriculture Officer Muhammad Tofazzal Hossain said,

"We are monitoring the incident seriously along with the upazila administration. Farmer Salahuddin Ahmed Hirak has faced major financial losses. Although the entire farm is 15 acres of land, fruit trees of five acres of land have been cut down."

The incident has created extreme anger and concern in the area. Locals have demanded a speedy investigation to identify and punish the culprits.
