Rahat Hossain (17) was repeatedly watching the shooting of student Abu Saeed during the quota reform movement in Rangpur on his mobile phone. He was very upset to see this. Just one day after that, Rahat also went to the same movement in the afternoon of July 18 and returned as a dead body.
At this stage of narrating the incident, Swapna was saying in a tone of regret, 'My son will go to the movement, if I had known this, I would never have left him. If I had known, I would have gone to the log myself, if I had been shot, I would have eaten mother and son alone.'
Rahat Hossain was a class XI student of Nawab Habibullah Model School and College, Uttara. Garment worker lived with mother and grandmother in Gopalpur of Tongi area of Gazipur. Father migrated abroad for the prosperity of the family. Rahat's family claimed that he was shot in the head and killed during the quota reform movement on July 18 in the capital's Uttara.
After 11 days of his death, last Sunday at noon, it was seen that the entire family was mourning the loss of Rahat's house. Swapna Akhtar is a distraught mother who lost her only son. He was found in his own house after going home. They returned to Tongi after burying Rahat in their home Narsingdi two days ago. The small room has a bed, wardrobe, reading table and some useful things. Rahat's used books and notebooks and some clothes and schoolbags are scattered among these. Swapna Akhter is staring at them. He is lying on the floor of the hospital.
Some of the neighbors said that on the evening of July 18, they suddenly got the news that Rahat had been shot dead. His body is lying in Modern Medical College Hospital, Uttara. After hearing the news, mother Swapna fell unconscious. Later, the neighbors took initiative and arranged to bring Rahat's body.
Swapna took the phone in her hand. He showed the picture and said, 'Someone kills people like this! He is so old, what crime did he commit that the boy had to be shot? Once I thought, how much pain my boy (son) suffered before he died. I will suffer if I see that I have never even touched a flower on her. But how did Kaira shoot him.'
