Equipment required for automated process control systems for both units of the country's largest project, Pabna Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, was recently shipped from Russia. These instruments have been developed by a specialized institute under Rosatom (Specialized Scientific Research Institute for Instrumentation Engineering-SNIIP). The machines will be delivered to the project site very soon.
On Tuesday (October 1) afternoon, Russia's Rosatom, the organization implementing the project, announced this information in a press release.
According to the press release, 15 radiation monitoring system units (ARMS) have been shipped for the first unit and 8 for the second unit. These systems have been developed considering the special needs of Rooppur project. A batch of 300 dosimeters and filter holders for personal use will arrive at the project site by the end of this year.
Alexander Kartsev, chief executive of SNIIP, the manufacturer of these machines, said, “The machines designated for the automatic process control system are being delivered to the Ruppur site in a single package. This kind of solution is going to be used for the first time in Rooppur project. We got the original hardware before the personal use dosimeter arrived. We are really happy that the essentials for the startup of the project are in hand soon.”
Earlier, SNIIP has shipped necessary equipment, detection units and various devices for continuous radiation monitoring inside the room. In addition, the hardware and software required for the personal dosimetric monitoring system have also already been delivered to the project site. This system collects various data from dosimeters used by personnel working in nuclear power plants. Other essential equipment that has arrived includes data processing hardware, radiation pollution monitoring equipment, laboratory equipment, etc.
Automatic radiation monitoring system collects, processes, stores and displays data on the radiation parameters of designated objects. These systems are used in various science and research centers including nuclear power plants, nuclear fuel cycle institutes.
Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant is being built in Rooppur with technical and financial support from Russia. The project will have two power units and have a total generating capacity of 2,400 MW. Each unit will be equipped with 3+ generation Russian VVER-1200 reactors capable of meeting all international safety requirements. Rosatom Engineering Wing is executing the project as General Designer and Contractor.
