Hot water on a 12-year-old girl for saying 'Murubbi Murubbi, Uhuhu'
Amir Hossain, the mother of the burnt girl, filed a case at the police station. Police arrested the accused woman Saira Khatun (60) from Battali village of Chittagong's Anwara.
The incident took place at Waizaro house of Ward No. 6 of Zuidandi Union of the upazila last Wednesday afternoon. However, the incident was reported through Facebook on Sunday.
The name of the injured girl is Popi Akhtar (12). Poppy Akhtar's father Mofizur Rahman died 9 years ago and mother Baby Akhtar died seven years ago. The girl has been living in a house located in Juidandi Union.
According to local sources, on Wednesday afternoon, children including the girl were playing in the yard. At that time, the children saw an old man named Air Mohammad (65) and called him Murbi Murbi. After a while Saira Khatun (60), wife of Air Mohammad's younger brother Abul Kalam, heated water from a gas stove and poured it on Poppy Akhtar's head. Poppy immediately fell on the ground. The people present first soaked Poppy in pond water and then took her to Anwara Hospital. When his physical condition worsened, he was taken to Chamek Hospital at night. The accused absconded after the incident.
Meanwhile, when this incident spread on social media including Prothom Alo on Sunday, there was a huge reaction. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Anwara Police Station. Monir Hossain said, "A case has been filed in the incident of scalding a girl with hot water." We have arrested the accused Saira Khatun in the night.
