Feroz Haider Khan, President of Bangladesh Brick Manufacturers Association, said that there are over 8,000 brick kilns across the country. About 5 million workers worked in these brick kilns. Brick kiln workers are the second largest workforce in the country. There is an investment of Rs 1 lakh crore in brick kilns. Development of Bangladesh is involved with this. Development of Bangladesh is not possible without bricks. We want to cooperate with this government. No alternative to brick has yet been developed.
He said these things at a press conference at Reporter Unity in Mirzapur, Tangail on Tuesday afternoon.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, environment and water adviser of the interim government, said that no new license will be given in the country. We have no problem if we don't allow brick kiln. We have done as per the government policy. But we have to give proper guidance. Say with your mouth that I will stop them, it is not the mug's mulluk. We do not expect such words from anyone. Tell us logically, we will cooperate logically.
He said we will sit and discuss these issues with the environment and water advisor. The drum chimney was closed in 2001. But still the drum chimney is working. In 2007 the fixed chimney was done again. But the fixed chimney was changed in 2013 to a zigzag kiln for environmental reasons. We have spent millions of rupees to make these changes. It is not good for the country because the government does not have such policies.
