The Department of Secondary and Higher Education (MAUSHI) canceled the transfer order of Rukhsana Parveen, head teacher of Kurigram Government Girls' High School, and made her an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the face of the students' agitation and demand. The decision was announced on Tuesday (August 27) in a notification signed by Maushi Assistant Principal (Secondary-II) Durga Rani Shikder.
Meanwhile, in a separate letter, Maushi announced the decision to investigate the allegations of corruption, irregularities and wrongdoing against the head teacher Rukhsana Parveen. A two-member inquiry committee comprising a deputy director and an assistant director of the office has been made by Maushi. The committee has been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a report with clear views within the next 10 working days.
Earlier, in the face of student agitation, Maushi ordered the transfer of head teacher Rukhsana Parveen to her residence district Lalmonirhat on Thursday. However, the agitators rejected such a transfer as a 'reward'. They announced that they would continue the agitation until their demands were met. Maushi changed that decision in the face of the stubborn position of the students.
The current and former students of the school started a movement to demand her removal from the position and dismissal of the head teacher Rukhsana Parveen, alleging arbitrariness, autocratic behavior and corruption and irregularities. The students protested by boycotting the classes and occupying the district administrator's office along with the schedule, blocking the road. They sacked Rukhsana Parveen and demanded an inquiry into the allegations against her. The district administration informs the ministry in writing about the students' demands. In the circumstances that arose, Maushi decided to investigate the allegations against Rukhsana Parveen, including making her the OSD.
