Sharidiya Durgotsav, the biggest religious festival of Sanatan religions held for 5 days with Sharsha Upazila and Benapole Municipal idols has ended. Before this, on the last day of Sharidiya Durgotsav, Mahanavami Puja was done in every mandapa of the upazila on Saturday and Vijaya Dashami Puja was completed on Sunday, October 13. On the last day of the puja, the mandapas in the upazila become deaf with the beating of drums, kansar bells, the sound of conch shells and the smoke of incense, and chants of devotion. At the same time, the shrines were illuminated with colorful lights.

On this day Goddess Durga will leave the mortal world (earth) and return to Swamigriha Kailasa. On the farewell of Goddess Durga, there was a shadow of sadness in the mandap. The sound of uludhvani, conch, bells and drums was the farewell tune of Devidurga.
On October 9, 2024, the autumn Durga Puja began with Mahashasthi Puja. And on October 13, 2024 Vijaya Dashami, the autumn Durga Puja ends with the idol immersion. The people of Sanatan Dharmabalambi community spent the last 5 days with laughter, joy and worship.


On Sunday afternoon and after 9 pm, Vijaya took a procession to his area where the upazila municipality and union parishad are located, taking idols from 28 pujamandap including temples of the upazila. Going there, the idols were immersed in the river one by one. Idol immersion ends at 10 pm.
As per custom, Sadaba women offer vermilion to Devi Durga with vermilion, betel and sweetmeats on the tenth day to wish for the well being of their husbands. After touching the vermilion on the feet of the goddess, the vermilion is first put on the sinthi and then touched on each other's sinthi and mouth. Say goodbye to Devi Durga by painting your face and smiling, which is known as Sindoor Khel.
According to the mythology Devi Durga along with her children Kartika, Ganesha, Lakshmi, Saraswati will return from Martyaloka (Earth) to her husband's home in Kailasa. Before this he came to the ancestral home in Mahalaya (earth). The Hindu community has been worshiping Goddess Durga for ages to destroy demonic forces and gain peace, welfare and prosperity.
According to the calendar, this time Devi Durga has come to Martyaloka (earth) riding on a gaj (elephant). Devidurga came to the locality at this time with the message of universal well-being to establish peace, harmony and harmony and to destroy the demonic forces. The arrival of the goddess riding in the yard means Vasundhara full of crops. It is believed that if the goddess comes to the mortal world riding a horse, then she brings happiness and prosperity along with her. Elephant is a symbol of wisdom and prosperity. And on Vijaya Dashami, the goddess will leave mortal world on a boat. Leaving the mortal world on a boat will fulfill the devotee's desires. The world becomes green. But there will also be danger of heavy rainfall or flooding.

Like other times, this time, hundreds of Hindu-Muslim women, men, children and teenagers come from different places to see the idols.
It should be noted that according to the information provided by Upazila Puja Celebration Parishad, Durga Puja was held in 28 Mandapas of 21 Benapole Municipalities in 7 Upazilas this year.
